The team recently completed a comprehensive restoration of a striking modern residence on Southcrest Drive, transforming a failing flat roof system into a durable, weather-tight installation. The home's contemporary design featured flat roof sections paired with distinctive barrel vault skylights, creating an architectural statement that required careful planning to preserve while addressing serious water management issues. The original built-up roofing had deteriorated significantly, with ponding water causing damage across the deck. The crew performed a complete tear-off down to the structural deck, replaced compromised plywood sections that had suffered prolonged moisture exposure, and installed a fully adhered 60-mil TPO membrane system with meticulously taped and welded seams.
Rather than disturb the barrel vault skylights, which featured attractive standing seam metal in excellent condition, the team focused on perfecting the transition areas. Every seam in the TPO installation received dual welding to ensure flawless integrity, a quality-first approach that extended the project timeline but guaranteed performance. The crew also resealed all transition flashing where the new TPO met the metal curbs and thoroughly cleared and recaulked the scuppers, discovering one nearly blocked with accumulated debris.
The three-person crew invested three full days in meticulous work, reflecting the precision required for flat roof installations. The homeowner, who had postponed this necessary replacement for two years, finally moved forward with the project and was pleased with the completed results. The refined installation now provides reliable protection while maintaining the home's distinctive aesthetic character.
