The team recently completed one of their most intricate residential projects this quarter on a stunning Tudor-style home nestled on Rives Place. The property's distinctive architecture—featuring brick construction, steep intersecting roof planes, and dual chimneys—presented both aesthetic and technical challenges that demanded careful planning and skilled execution. The homeowner was committed to preserving the home's character while addressing storm damage from an April hail and wind event that had been assessed by Liberty Mutual.
After removing two layers of existing dimensional shingles and discovering original cedar shake in spots beneath them, the crew discovered the deck was in mixed condition. The original section over the great room featured skip sheathing designed for the old shake, requiring a complete overlay of half-inch CDX plywood before shingling could begin. In total, the team replaced approximately 16 sheets of decking across the various roof planes. Both chimneys received full tear-outs and reflashing, with the homeowner opting for copper stepping and counter flashing to develop a natural patina that would complement the Tudor aesthetic. The crew also rebuilt a cricket behind the rear chimney that had been improperly caulked over by a previous contractor.
Working with Ico Cambridge shingles in dual brown tones to harmonize with the warm brick and dark wood accents, the team's five-person crew invested a full five days navigating the complex valley cuts and steep pitches. The Liberty Mutual adjuster approved a supplemental claim covering the additional decking and copper flashing upgrades, ensuring the home received the quality restoration it deserved.
