The team took on a stunning restoration project on Slattery Boulevard, where a beautiful southern plantation-style home needed a roof that matched its architectural elegance. The white stucco showpiece features a distinctive double gallery porch with ornamental iron railings and a bold red front door—a neighborhood landmark that demanded a premium roofing solution. The homeowners, Colonel James and Angela Whitfield, selected the company's luxury Grand Manor Gatehouse Slate, a heavyweight laminate engineered to mimic natural slate while offering the durability and lifetime limited warranty they were seeking.
The project presented several technical challenges that the crew handled expertly. After removing an older roof damaged by consecutive storm seasons, the team discovered moisture issues beneath the second-story porch overhang and replaced six sheets of OSB decking, then installed a vapor barrier for long-term protection. The shallow-pitched lower gallery porch required special attention—the crew installed GAF Liberty self-adhered cap sheet in that section since traditional shingles cannot perform on pitches below 4/12, carefully blending colors so the transition remained invisible from street view. The team also replaced deteriorated gutter downspout elbows that had been directing water against the foundation, eliminating a potential structural concern.
Completed by a five-person crew in three and a half days, the USAA insurance claim covered both the main roof and porch roof work. Colonel Whitfield inspected the progress each evening and personally thanked every crew member upon completion. Angela's satisfaction was evident when she posted photos to the neighborhood Facebook group that same night, generating three additional calls within 24 hours—a testament to the team's clean, professional workmanship on this prestigious home.
